The exterior ofThe Daily Times building at 110 W. Jefferson St., Ottawa, Illinois has not changed much since it was built in 1939. A 1986 survey by the National Park Service cited the structure as one of the few examples of Art Moderne architecture in Ottawa. There are no windows. Glass blocks were used in the walls "to provide a flood of natural diffused light to all corners of every office." The blocks today, however, must be shaded to reduce brightness and the heat that is produced in the summer. The Daily Times, Ottawa, Illinois, is owned by the Small Newspaper Group Inc. and is the ninth oldest newspaper in the state of Illinois, and was established in 1844. The Daily Times is published six days a week, Monday through Saturday. The publication is printed offset on a 7-Unit Goss Urbanite. The Times-Press, Streator, is printed in Ottawa immediately following The Daily Times.
